FSARS Nabs two fleeing robbers with stolen car in Delta


Operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, FSARS, in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria have arrested two fleeing robbery suspects in Delta State who allegedly robbed one Dr. Ike Okonne in Lagos of his Camry car.

The car, with the registration number LND 687 DC was valued at N2.5m, They drove the car to Delta State to look for a buyer for it.
The suspects are Zakari Tijani, 20 and Omeka Peters, 26.
The robbers, according to the police also robbed Okonne’s Daughter, Barr. Winifred of Iphone 6 mobile value at N150,000 before they escaped.
The incident, police alleged, occurred on 12 June, 2017 at 8:30pm on Awolowo Road, Railway Quarters, Ebutte-Metta, Lagos where Okonne resides with his family.
The police alleged that the suspects jumped into the compound of Okonne and met her daughter outside opening the car of her father to remove some documents.
The suspects reportedly, armed with daggers and other dangerous weapons ordered the lawyer to take them inside.

On getting inside the victim’s palour, the suspects stole two Iphones belonging to Okonne and her daughter and a Camry car key. It was learnt that when Okonne and his wife who were upstairs heard of the noise between the robbers and her daughter in their palour, they jumped over a fence to escape and in the process, Okonne wife had a broken leg.
She’s currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Lagos.
Following the incident, Okonne reported the matter to the DCP in charge of FSARS, Lagos Mr. Ibrahim Kaoje who directed a team led by CSP Megida Dauda to track and arrest the suspects with the stolen car.
The police tracked the car to Delta State where they arrested the suspects with the stolen vehicle while looking for a buyer for it and brought them with the car to Lagos.
During investigation, the suspects, according to the police, allegedly confessed to the crime that they had been robbing residence of Lagos State for the past five years.
The suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a four-count charge of felony to wit.

Armed robbery offences, the police prosecutor Abraham Fadipe said were punishable under sections 299 and 297 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The plea of the accused persons was not taken and Magistrate B.A Sonuga ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the advice from Directorate of Public Prosecution’s office.
Shonuga adjourned the case till 19 September, 2017.
